Earlier today, a set of operators, infrastructure providers, system integrators, and technology companies came together with Facebook to announce the Telecom Infra Project (TIP). TIP draws a lot of inspiration from the successful community-led structure of OCP, and we welcome this effort to bring new innovation and efficiency to telecom network infrastructure.
Just a few weeks ago, many of the same participants in TIP joined the OCP Telco Project, our initiative to focus on data center technologies for telecom companies. By preparing the OCP community to address the specific technical and operational requirements of telcos, we are setting up telco data center infrastructure to be the latest industry to achieve increased cost-savings and flexibility through OCP innovations.
The OCP Telco Project now has participation from leaders across the telecom industry, and their embrace of openness and community-led innovation is a significant validation of the OCP model. Seeing these companies want to take these principles and expand them to other infrastructure areas outside the data center like the traditional telecom network stack is a development that the OCP community can look to with pride. Working side-by-side with TIP, we look forward to unlocking new opportunities based on a community-driven, open approach to telecom infrastructure.
