The Open Compute Project Foundation (OCP) announces today the election of Mark Roenigk (Infrastructure Hardware Lead title at Facebook) to serve as the Chair of the Board of Directors. Mark replaces Jason Taylor (Vice President of Infrastructure Foundation at Facebook), who has served for the past two years. During his tenure as Chief Operating Officer of Rackspace, Mark was one of the founding board members of OCP. Mark Roenigk is one of the founding board members of OCP during his tenure as Chief Operating Officer of Rackspace.
“OCP would like to thank Jason Taylor for his service as the Chair of the Board of Directors of OCP. Mr. Taylor successfully led the Foundation through its critical transition to a mature organization with significant momentum in the industry. OCP has successfully established an open source hardware ecosystem with more than 4,000 technical professionals and more than 200 organizational members actively engaged in OCP projects,”, stated Rocky Bullock, CEO of the Open Compute Project Foundation.
OCP looks to build on these successes in the future with the acceleration of the OCP Marketplace, which features orderable components, to drive adoption and influence the industry to proactively improve the technology value chain and accelerate the introduction of new technologies, including optics, security and edge computing. The OCP Marketplace saw a 48% increase in products in the fourth quarter of 2017 alone, with a healthy pipeline of new contributions from member companies leading into the new year.
“Over the past six years, the Foundation has grown immensely and positively impacted the industry — and I would like to thank Jason Taylor for being part of that growth,” said Bill Laing (Microsoft and OCP Board Member). “Mark Roenigk has also been a key part of the Foundation. He is a visionary in the industry and has a strong track record of successfully executing and scaling infrastructure. As the new Chair of the Board of Directors, Mark will shepherd OCP into the next phase of its growth.”
