Andy Billington is an Innovation and Sustainability Specialist at RB Rail AS, the joint venture for the implementation and coordination of the Rail Baltica development and we chat about using open technologies while focusing on environmental sustainability as one of the core pillars. Rail Baltica is one of the most exciting projects taking place in Europe this decade and Andy shares his perspective on the challenges and opportunities in doing a new greenfield infrastructure project of this size.
Andy Billington Innovation and Sustainability Expert in RB Rail AS Andy Billington is the Innovation and Sustainability specialist at RB Rail AS, the joint venture for the implementation and coordination of the Rail Baltica development. This greenfield project will connect the Baltic-region to the wider European rail and transport networks. Prior to joining the project, Andy was directly involved in rolling stock and infrastructure digitalisation/ analytics projects at Transport for London, and worked in enterprise and mission-critical IT and telecoms projects both in the UK and worldwide. Seeing similar systems and equivalent requirements across a range of different organizations has given Andy a strong drive to transfer lessons learned to make the most of synergies across sectors. He's eager to use open standards and adapt commercial off-the-shelf solutions to increase flexibility, reduce costs and long-term risks, as well as enable innovative and sustainable solutions. |
